19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's initial championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my both daughters together, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an better service.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

He defended 4 early-game chances in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
